Wake up Sid ---> Movie Review

I really like Ranbir Kapoor as an actor and even in his interviews he comes across as someone who is confident and very down to earth so there was no doubt in my mind to watch this one on the first day of its release. This is a coming of age movie about a boy who from having no aim or ambition in life and turns into one who is responsible and values what life has to offer him, but after watching it I felt the storyline was way too simple and lacked the punch or the effect one expects from a movie. Dont get me wrong its not a tacky or a cheesy flick but somehow you don't feel like spending money and watching something that you already know or have been through in your life at some point or the other.

The pace of the movie at times gets to you and all the while you are waiting for that one big un-expected twist in the storyline which sadly never comes, trust me you can easily predict what's going to happen in the movie at most points which I am afraid is not such a good thing when it comes to movie making because the element of surprise is the only weapon a director has to hold the viewers attention which I must say this movie lacks.

Coming to the performances there is no doubt that Ranbir Kapoor is a very fine actor and he has ample talent when it comes to emoting his scenes and also he makes them so very convincing that you are truly moved by them only thing is that he should probably choose is movies wisely as for Konkana Sen she has always been a superb actress and me telling you that would not be any different but I felt the love angle between the two lacks real chemistry as friends they were great but as lovers you feel that there is something missing. The songs are nice I like the title track but the one which stands out is "Iktaara" which I have to download on my ipod!

So I would say this is a "OK" types flick which has a fresh feel to it but lacks some substance watch it for Ranbir and remember the time when you had shades of Sid in your life but to me the best coming of age movie still remains to be 'Dil Chahta Hai'....

yes i agree with you there, he is a fresh actor, he really carried off the role well. as for the becoming a photographer part, it was very predictable. its kind of sad when predictability kills a movie...
